Health services research focuses on the daily activities of service delivery programs in both the public and private sectors. These cover a wide range of issues, including training, commodity logistics, voluntary counseling and testing, public information and education, hospital and clinic activities, community- and home-based health care, institutional capacity for NGOs and community mobilization. Problems affecting these operations are examined, focusing on the search for solutions through research variables that can be affected by administrative action.
Health services research provides answers to problems impacting on fertility and health programs. The research is a continuous process involving five basic steps: problem identification and diagnosis, strategy selection, strategy testing and evaluation, information dissemination and information utilization. CATALYST applies formative and evaluation research skills to conduct health services research designed to increase the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of services delivered by providers, as well as the availability, accessibility and acceptability of services desired by users.
